Today, we want to spotlight three vital organizations that JOYRide is passionate about as they transform lives right here in Michigan City, helping individuals find their joy despite life’s most challenging moments.
W.A.I.R – We Are All In Recovery:
Every journey to recovery strengthens our entire community. We All in Recovery is a resource center for individuals experiencing substance abuse. W.A.I. R. is located in Trail Creek and is a vital resource for those in the recovery community. JOYRide’s Owner, Rose Tejeda, donated her time and talent in late 2024 to help refresh the center by designing an uplifting color pallet and painting the hallways of the center. “I am so passionate about the work W.A.I.R. is doing for those in need in our community. I am honored to be able to give my time and create an uplifting, joyful place for recovery for this organization,” Rose said when she spoke about the work at this organization.

Nest Community Shelter:
Located on the westside of Michigan City near our JOYRide offices, this community shelter is an organization that is saving lives in our community. They are La Porte County’s only emergency shelter that welcomes men, women, and women with children. Housed in a historic Catholic Church, this shelter has a success rate of housing 40% of the residents who walk through their doors, well above the industry average. We have such a passion for the fantastic work they’re doing in the community and in our neighborhood. We recently provided hot cocoa, coffee, and cookies at their Candlelight Gathering this past holiday season to raise funds and awareness for those experiencing homelessness in our community.

Sand Castle Shelter:
Families experiencing homelessness in our community find more than shelter at Sand Castle Shelter. Focusing on sustainable self-sufficiency, they work with families to create a solid path toward stable housing. This shelter focuses on keeping families together, connecting parents to community resources, and working in coordination with Grace Learning Center to provide educational opportunities and life skills classes for those in need.
