Washington Park Zoo
The Washington Park Zoo kicked off its 2025 season on March 29, 2025, and will welcome visitors through December 7, 2025. This charming hilltop zoo is perfect for family outings, offering goat feeding activities and multiple viewing angles to spot bears, wolves, and otters. Don’t forget your camera for those castle photo ops! This charming zoo is nestled along the Lake Michigan Shoreline in Washington Park and can be visited together with a trip to the beach.

Carlson’s Drive-In
After 78 years of seasonal service, this local legend continues its tradition of serving all-beef hot dogs, fresh burgers, and their famous house-brewed root beer. Experience authentic carhop service and tasty fare from 11 AM to 7 PM daily. Located at 118 West Coolspring Avenue. Be sure to experience the chili-cheese fries and a frosty root beer!

Scoops and Sweet Bubbles
Located across from the Lighthouse Premium Outlets, this charming ice cream parlor is a true gem! From delicious ice cream treats that will be an experience to remember to refreshing bubble teas, this stop is a must on a hot summer day in Michigan City. Oasis Splash Pad at Washington Park
The popular splash pad will open for the summer season, providing cool relief for kids on hot summer days beginning on May 23rd. This free and fun place to cool off is a treat for the young and young at heart.

Dunes Summer Theatre
Get ready for another season of fantastic theatrical productions as the Dunes Summer Theatre prepares to open its doors. This summer treat opens their 2025 season with a production of Misery, opening on May 29th. John Hancock directs this year’s debut production while local on-air celebrity Janet Davies joins co-star Kevin Lee Giese in the starring roles of this play. Misery runs through June 15th.
Indiana Dunes National Park Beaches
Central Avenue Beach and Mt. Baldy will soon welcome beachgoers for the official beach season, complete with lifeguards and full amenities. Keep in mind that most of the beaches in Michigan City either have a fee to park, or you must have a National Park pass to park your car. Keep an eye out for posted signs on where to park.

Friendship Botanic Gardens
The gardens expand their programs and activities for the summer season, offering visitors 105 acres of beautiful landscapes and trails. This ecological treasure has something for everyone, from activities for the youngest visitors to hikes and strolls, to quiet places to sit and take in the greenery. The gardens open on May 1st for the season. Be sure to check out their website for entry fees and hours.

Frosty Boy Ice Cream
This family favorite at 2030 E US Highway 20 has already opened its doors, serving up soft serve, frozen yogurt, and classic treats. Perfect for families with their drive-through option and outdoor picnic tables. Check their hours before visiting!

Bridges Waterside Grille
Mark your calendars! Bridges will reopen for Spring 2025, bringing back their delicious waterside dining experience. Located on Trail Creek near Lake Michigan, this family-friendly spot offers outdoor seating, a view of the historic Amtrak swing bridge, and a menu featuring sandwiches, seafood, and gluten-free options. Their opening date has been advertised as May 14th!

The Farmed and Forged Market, formerly the Michigan City Farmers Market
Find fresh local produce, artisan goods, and more at the corner of 8th and Washington Street. The market opens for the season on May 23rd and runs through October, operating every Saturday from 8 AM to 12 PM. All vendors are required to sell local products sourced within 100 miles, supporting our local farmers and community.
