Taste the Hype: Meet the Makers

MAJIK Faktory will open its doors on Friday, October 2, for Taste the Hype: Meet the Makers, a First Friday celebration bringing together local food, makers, entrepreneurs, hands-on experiences and a behind-the-scenes look at one of Michigan City’s growing community innovation spaces.

The evening begins at 4 p.m. with the MAJIK Market, located outside MAJIK Faktory, where visitors can explore local vendors, food trucks, makers and handmade goods. Guests can also learn about plans to transform the outdoor space into the future MAJIK Community Commons, a welcoming community gathering and garden space.
Inside MAJIK Faktory, guests will have the opportunity to meet the makers and explore the Faktory, including its STEM and fabrication spaces, workshops and other areas designed for hands-on learning, experimentation and collaboration.
A special ticketed Taste the MAJIK experience will showcase creative bites and flavors featuring local farms, food producers, chefs and makers. The tasting experience will include a five-course-ish progression with pairings, entertainment and an opportunity to experience MAJIK Faktory in a more intimate setting.
The evening is about more than food.

“Taste the Hype is really an invitation to come see what’s happening here,” said Eva Eastman, MAJIK Faktory Board Member. “You can meet the people making things, teaching things, growing things and building businesses in our community — and then walk through MAJIK and imagine what else could happen here. We want people to experience it, get involved and bring their own MAJIK to the Faktory.”

The event also introduces the community to Ignite MAJIK, MAJIK Faktory’s campaign to invest in the infrastructure necessary to expand the building’s capacity, programming and community access. A primary campaign priority is the installation of a required fire sprinkler system, an important step toward allowing MAJIK to welcome larger groups and activate more of the facility.

Community members interested in getting involved beyond the event are encouraged to learn about becoming a facilitator, hosting a micro-event, volunteering, joining a committee, supporting the MAJIK Community Commons or contributing to the Ignite MAJIK campaign.
