Something sweet is brewing in Michigan City! Our community just got a little sweeter, more creative, and definitely more misbehaving. Misbeehavin’ Meads, a craft meadery and cidery, has officially relocated to Michigan City. We had the opportunity to stop in and experience it for ourselves, and we can confidently say this is one new local spot you’re gonna want to add to your list!
A New Chapter For An NWI Favorite
Opening in Valparaiso in 2016, the meadery has been brewing up delicious beverages and smiles for ten years in Northwest Indiana. Owners Jill and Clint Wadsworth relocated Misbeehavin’ Meads to Michigan City in June 2026 in search of a larger space (and their very own parking lot), and we couldn’t be more excited to have them here in our city.
Originally setting out to make craft beer, Clint Wadsworth shifted his focus when his father-in-law began keeping bees. With an abundance of honey, Clint began experimenting with brewing mead. The first batch was far from perfect, but that experimentation became a passion project and eventually a business. The new location has a personality almost as big as their tasty mead; the space has a fun, retro ambiance, with bright details that make you want to stay and sip for a while. It even has a game room complete with a pinball machine.
During our visit, owner Jill shared a very fun fact about the honey used in one of the meads we sampled, the “Sloop of War.” This orange-blossom mead has notes of caramelized honey, toffee, vanilla, toasted almonds, and allspice. Although crafted in Florida, the honey comes from local bees in Rolling Prairie. The keeper takes his bees down to Florida every year, which adds different notes. As Jill explained, honey tastes different depending on where the bees go. Pretty sweet stuff!
What Is Mead?
If you’ve never had the opportunity to try mead, you’re in for a sweet treat! Mead, also known as honey wine, is a fermented alcoholic drink made with honey, yeast, and water. The ingredients are simple; however, the results are anything but! The team crafts dozens of traditional and experimental varieties of mead each year. Their fun and fresh approach to brewing mead allows them to craft meads with a diverse range of flavors and personalities.
