There’s no better place to celebrate the Fourth of July than in Michigan City! If you’re not a local, you may not know the best ways to spend the holiday. As locals, we know the best places to celebrate, the smartest ways to avoid the crowds, and where to catch the most spectacular views of the fireworks. If you’re looking to celebrate like an insider, we’ve got you covered. Here’s everything you need to know to make the most of Independence Day in Michigan City.
Washington Park Beach
Fourth of July in Michigan City isn’t complete without a visit to Washington Park Beach. Pack your bags with plenty of sunscreen, towels, drinks, and snacks, and settle in for a fun day celebrating the holiday. If you forget any beach essentials, you can always stop at BaseCamp Marina Cafe and Beachside Provisions. While you’re there, grab one of our “I Heart MC” tumblers to keep your beverage cold while you relax on the beach.
Insider tip: If you’re planning to stay through the evening, consider arriving earlier in the day. The beach becomes especially busy as fireworks spectators begin arriving in the afternoon.
The Michigan City Fireworks Spectacular
What’s the Fourth of July without watching fireworks? The Michigan City Firework Spectacular takes place on Friday, July 4, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Washington Park Beach. The event is free to attend, but visitors should keep in mind that parking fees still apply at Washington Park. The parking lots also tend to fill quickly, and the traffic before and after the fireworks can be heavy. Fortunately, there’s an easier way to get there.
Skip the Traffic and Parking With JOYRide
Let JOYRide do the driving this Fourth of July! For the Michigan City Firework Spectacular, we’re offering $5 rides per person to and from Washington Park Beach from two designated pickup locations:

Park near one of these convenient pickup locations and hop aboard a JOYRide. Either flag us down or call 219-955-7433. You can also book in advance online.
